OK, so the NZ$25 seemed a bit steep just to go up an elevator, but the views are what you come for. Bring a tourist brochure (grab one before going through customs at Auckland Airport) and you should find a voucher in there for 10% off.
If you're really game you can also jump off the tower for approx NZ$200. It's a one way trip - ie you don't bounce up and down like a normal bungy. Instead you come to a slow and safe stop at the base of the tower. One of the tourist brochures I found at the airport had a $50 off voucher so keep your eyes on the lookout.

At 328 meters, Auckland’s Sky Tower is the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere. On a clear day, the views from the 220-meter high observation deck are outstanding, revealing Auckland for the sprawling mass of humanity that it is, but also revealing surrounding volcanoes and offshore islands. On the downside, the city’s most famous landmark – the Sky Tower itself – cannot be seen. Given the free views available from other places in the city, all of which include views of the Sky Tower, I’d recommend saving your $15-$20 and giving the Sky Tower a miss.

Sky Tower is a 328m structure. It is part of the Sky City complex which has a 24 hour casino along with restaurants, bars, cafes and a hotel. We didn't do the skyjump but saw a few people do it. There is also a floor which is a viewing area. You get great views of all of Auckland
There is pretty good gift shop in the lower level of Sky City by the elevators that go up to Sky Tower.

The Main Observation Level is 186m high above the streets of Auckland and you have the opportunity to stand on 38mm thick plexiglass panels set into the walking platform to give you the feeling of walking on air.
I was told told that the plexiglass is much stronger than the concrete floors around it and that they would easily hold my weight. I proved them right.

With its 328 meters the Skytower is not only the landmark of Auckland but also the tallest free-standing building of the southern hemisphere.
Since its opening in March 1997 Skytower is used for broadcasting radio and television and attracts visitors from all over the world who have a gorgeous look over Auckland from its observation platform. On the platform you'll find a glass-bottom area. It's a strange feeling to stand there and look down.
The building is designed to withstand high wind speed and earthquakes. It's said that tower would not collapse even after an 8.0 earthquake.

The Sky Tower is the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere. It's 360 degree views are amazing and you can spot practically any Auckland landmark (including my house) from it!
The Restraunt is also great, as it revolves round!
You can also climb to the top of it and also jump off it (with a harness)!
