Devonport Ferry, Auckland
Quick, cheap, nice ferries. Enjoyed the return trip. Major renovations and construction going on at the Devonport wharf, to be called Devonport Marina with new development. Inside the ferry terminal is a huge book shop, community radio station The Flea, gift and souvenir shop and food outlets. Across the road to the Esplanade Hotel, and more souvenir shops, nice area and great views of the city from here. Recommended as a trip. Ferries have a snack bar and comfortable seating.
The Devonport Ferry is the cheapest way to get aboard a boat and see the Auckland Harbour. The 10 minute ride leaves from the bottom of Queen St and takes you to beautiful Devonport, a quaint town which still retains some of the charm of Aucklands early days. A short walk to either Mt Victoria or North Head will provide spectacular views of the city and the Hauraki Gulf. Nearby Cheltnam beach also offers the chance of safe family swimming at high tide.
Cost NZ$8 return.
