Lake Pupuke is a small freshwater lake on the North Shore which has formed in the crater of one of Auckland’s oldest volcano’s. The name Pupuke comes from the Maori name of Pupukemoana meaning ‘over flowing lake’.

Takapuna is the main commercial and shopping centre of North Shore City. There is street shopping just off the beach as well as Shore City Galleria for undercover shopping. There are also some great restaurants and cafes there – dine in or outside on a nice sunny day. The Pumphouse Theatre is also there.

Takapuna is great for spending a few hours shopping and dining. On Sundays there is a great market held in one of the carparks.

Rangitoto a famous Auckland landmark, is both the youngest and largest of the many volcanoes throughout in New Zealand. The island is symmetrical and can be seen from anywhere in the Hauraki Gulf. Its evolution was from a short intense period of volcanic activity around 500 years ago. You take a ride on the local transport. Pass by old lava flows and a few rare huts that still exist on the island.
