Auckland Fish Market: Auckland Fish Market

by kiwigal_1

The Auckland Fish Market is perhaps one of the more interesting places to buy seafood in New Zealand. I guess it is somewhere a local is more likely to go than a tourist however the morning fish auction could be of interest to some visitors. The market opens at 5am for viewing with the auction starting at 6am Monday to Friday. There is a Seafood Cookery School, gourmet foods store, and many other seafood products (besides the obvious!)There is a shuttle bus from various spots in town to the market (see website for details) Fresh fish is the order of the day. There are a range of other services though including fresh sashimi and sushi made to order by Japanese master sushi chef Minoru Yamazaki. This depends entirely on what you are buying!

Westfield Shopping Centre: St Lukes Mall

by kiwigal_1

St Lukes is one of the many Westfield Shopping Centre's dotted around Auckland and the closest one to the city. It is about 10 minutes by car from my house (Mt Eden) and I often shop here. There are a variety of stores but also a food hall and cafe's, movie theatre complex, supermarkets.Open from:Monday to Wednesday 9.00am to 6.00pm Thursday and Friday 9.00am to 9.00pm Saturday 9.00am to 6.00pm Sunday 10.00am to 5.30pm Public Holidays 10.00am to 6.00pm Almost anything you could need can be found here!

Dress Smart Outlet Shopping: Dress Smart Onehunga - Outlet Stores

by kiwigal_1

The dressmart is a great place to shop for clothing (men's, women's, children's, sporting) if you are living in Auckland or even visiting and looking for a bargain. The stores are all discount or seconds stores for the main stores found in all the malls. You can get out of season stuff at really reasonable prices! The "mall" is open every day from 10am to 5pm Depends on what you are buying but all goods are heavily discounted

DFS DUTYFREE: Duty Free

by kinjalnz15

duty free perfumes are the best buys but dont buy anything else its cheaper outside new zealand. Its stills puzzle why they call it a duty free when its more expensive inside this store than outside. Maybe auckland airport and its dutyfree outlet should learn from changi airport, dubai dutyfree or Hk dutyfree the real meaning of dutyfree. The staff trends to pay more attention to chinese and japanese tour groups where they collect commissions from the drivers. nothing its far too much expensive.

Smith and Caughey's

by kiwigal_1

Smith and Caughey's is an upmarket Department Store in two locations, Queen Street and Newmarket. I only ever shop here in their two sales that are held every year. You can buy expensive foreign goods here, jewellery, cosmetics, perfumes, designer clothing and gifts. Top price but the sales are good!

Shopping Malls

by redrider

Auckland is littered with shopping malls. All the have the same standard shops, just a different location. Good for a look around. Not a major price differences between any place in Auckland. But as always it pays to shop around, you never know where a sale may be lurking.

Various: Newmarket

by kiwigal_1

Newmarket is a little more up-market than other shopping areas in Auckland. You can find the usual shops at 277 Broadway but along Broadway there are little boutique stores as well. Smith and Caughey's also has a department store here as does The Warehouse and there is a Woolworths Supermarket.
