Where to aim for
There is honestly so much to see and do all around the Coromandel penninsula. There are a number of good places that are ideal to base yourself from, the best of which, in terms of geography, is Coromandel Township itself. For visitors coming from Auckland (where most international visitors will arrive) head South on State Highway 1 and follow the signs for Coromandel - Coromandel town will take you between 2-3 hours by car (there is no rail service). The drive will be on main roads, and as you drive up the penninsular the road becomes more winding, following the coast. The main photo shows you Coromandels pretty tourist infomation centre.
