At the end of the beach there are rock formations and at low tide you will find some pools of water in between. These pools are teeming with a variety of life. If you enjoy these kind of small wonders of nature you should certainly take look here.
At first glance I thought there were just a bunch of shells laying around in the pools, but all of a sudden I discovered that they started running from time to time. It turned out that most were occupied by hermit crabs. They put on a very entertaining show.
Be careful not to get too mesmerized, you'll get wet when the tide comes running in over the rocks.
Ok, so theres not all that much to do in Waihi Beach except go to the beach, but it is deffinately worth going to! It's lovely to just hand out on the sad, go swimming and surfing. There is also a hike at the end of a beach that leads to a smaller, but very cool beach.
