If you have your own car, the best way to see the cape is to aviod all of the tourist buses.
Decide what day you are going to go up and ring any tour company that does trips to the cape. Ask them if they are going UP to the cape via the road. If they are going up via the road, time it so you reach the cape in the mid afternoon. If they are not going up via the road, time it so you get to the cape in the mid morning.
This way you can have the place nearly to yourself!
