Do not expect to have crystal clear cell phone reception here as it fades in and out on the main road north.
At the beach at Henderson Bay you can get reception - it will mean sitting watching the waves roll in as you use your phone!
Receiving texts is easier than taking phone calls. When you get a bar or 2 and want to make a phone call, DO NOT move the phone, instead dial the number then move your ear to the phone else you may loose your bars.
Vodafone tends to have better reception than Telecom.
Henderson Bay is on the east coast. Down a metal road, it is not used by many people apart from locals. Fishing off the rocks, or wandering around the tidal pools, you can explore the sea life of this area.

It is now becoming known as a surf beach with fantastic reef-type beach breaks so expect crowds of surfers usually in the summer months (That is Dec - Feb for you northern hemisphere people!)
Favorite thing: Ngataki is a settlement north of Houhora and south of Te Kao on the state Highway running to / from the cape.
