Mangonui is a small town on Doubtless Bay, full of interesting old historic buildings, This is the Old Post Office I believe.
The rain continued to fall and the green farmland of Northland became a series of lakes with cattle and sheep stranded on islands. The roads were also becoming a bit dodgy.
Another fine beach on Doubtless Bay. Again though the weather was not kind to us. It was wet and windy and blowing a gale.
It must be nice in the summer I imagine.
We stayed at Taipa on Dobtless Bay. There are some fine beaches nearby, but alas the weather was not with us.
Ngatokimatawhaorua: the Maori war canoe has been made out of three kauri trees and is 35 metres long. The canoe can accommodate 120 warriors.
Te Whare Runanga: this meeting house was opened on February 6 in 1940. Exactly hundred years after the Treaty was signed.
In the house you can see typical Maori wood carvings.
Maori’s believe the branches of this pohutukawa tree are departure point of their journey to the homeland of Hawaiki.
