 Robdaz Says:  A short drive from our campground you will reach whanakaki, another stretch of white sandy beach.The day we were there it was very windy and the kite surfers were surfing up and down the beach.There were also quite a numbers of holiday homes and a campground in the area. 

Matapouri Bay.

 Robdaz Says:  I have never heard of Matapouri before but what a place . It is the most beautiful bay along the coasts. We have a great day here on the white sandy beach and although there we plenty of other people around it never felt crowded.

 kenmerk Says:  The black fish is protecting its eggs, and isn't giving any ground.. (The diver was the dive master on this dive....). 

Kelp Forest

 kenmerk Says:  Being from warmer climes, diving at Poor Knights was quite different that what I had experienced before... I'm more used to a coral jungle, but here it is more of a rocky terrain encrusted in kelp... 

Big Cave

 kenmerk Says:  Huge natural cave in one of the islands. It is rumoured that Japanese subs used to hide in this particular cave during WW2 to avoid detection... 

Scorpion Fish

Scorpion Fish, Tutukaka

 kenmerk Says:  The well camouflaged scorpion (or rock) fish can be hard to see as they tend to blend themselves in with the rocks around them. Careful not to touch though as the spine on their backs is poisonous and if touch can be quite painful... 

Air Pockets

 kenmerk Says:  At one site there was an underwater cave that led to an air pocket where you could surface. Although the top of this cave is full of air, you depth gage will read about 30 feet deep...

 Robdaz Says:  We enjoyed our 3 days/4 nights stay there. It's a flat site and there is no great views but it is conveniently located within walking distance (5 mins ) to the marina where you can enjoy a walk, have a drink and enjoy a great meals if you wanted to.Their is plenty of great...

 kenmerk Says:  The cold water around NZ necessitates diving in a thick wet suit. Being from the warmer climes, this was a new experience for me... The combination of the thick suit, hood, plus the added weight you need to sink it makes you feel like your wearing a Frankenstein costume......

 kenmerk Says:  Tutukaka Harbour is the launching point for trips out to Poor Knights Island. The boat trip out takes about 50 minutes.... This area is also famous for big game fishing, so you will see quite a few fishing boats in the harbour as well...
