    Northliner Express From Auckland

    Coach To Whangarei

The Northliner Express coaches are very comfortable to travel in. They have reclining seats, large panoramic windows, air conditioning and are all video equipped.

The journey from Auckland to Whangarei takes approx. 2 1/2 hours.

Adult: $32 per person 1 way (standard fare)
    Children: (3 - 11yrs) 33% off standard fare
    Infants: (under 3yrs) free
Students: (12yrs and over with ID card) 30% off standard fare
Golden Age: (over 50) 30% off standard fare
Backpackers: (with ID card) 30% off standard fare

Check out their website for their package deals and return trips.

Warning: These buses do not have rest rooms on board. Regular stops are made though for rest rooms and refreshments.

If not hiring a car while in NZ then this would be my number 1 choice :-)

    Getting Around Whangarei

    by kiwi_goddess Updated Apr 4, 2011

    The Lil Red Bus

The Whangarei Bus Service is not too bad for getting around on. At certain times of the day it can be very busy, mostly due to school and work. The buses are quite small (not full sized coaches).

Adult fare is: $2 per person, per ride
Child aged 5 -14 is:$1 per person, per ride
    Under 5 is free

Buses dont run every half hour or hour so ask a bus driver at the Rose Street Bus Terminal for a timetable!!

    InterCity Coachlines To Whangarei

    by kiwi_goddess Updated Apr 4, 2011

    InterCity Coach

InterCity Coachlines travel everyday between Auckland and Whangarei as well as other cities around NZ. They have large panoramic windows and are air conditioned.

Bookings are essential. Intercity coaches would be my second choice of coachlines to travel to Whangarei from Auckland (only due to price).

Some of their buses have toilets on board, but as far as I am aware, it is not the ones that travel between Auckland and Whangarei. Restroom stops are made during the journey though.

I will list pricing within next couple of days!!

Getting around the town centre of Whangarei is simple - you walk. Public transport in NZ is sadly not as good as we would often like it to be, but it is improving year by year, and you can find information about the bus service here: http://www.nrc.govt.nz/Transport/Getting-around/Whangarei-Bus-Service/

    Dial a driver

by Kiwigirlie Written Mar 31, 2004

If you have hired a vehicle and have driven it into the town for the evening - but after a few wines with your meal, you suddenly feel like having a few more.... Don't be put off. Since NZ has strict drink driving laws and you have had a bit too much, you can ring dial a driver and they will pick you and your car up and deliver you back to where you are staying.
Brilliant if you are staying at a camp ground miles out of town!!!!!
I don't know the phone number but if you ask around you'll find someone who knows what it is!
