While in Taupo we stopped at Xcafe on Lake Taupo foreshore near Ruapehu St.They also had internet 1 hr - $6. or 15 min $2.50. (Most places we went in NZ, outside capital cities, Internet was this same price. The best we found anywhere was $4/hr but don't expect to find that often)(Plenty of terminals).I tried a Creamy Soda milkshake which was quite nice (must be another NZ specialty).
One of the things I enjoyed most during my very brief stop at Lake Taupo, was the beautiful elevated view from the window of the old DC3 plane in Ruapehu street, down on the lake itself and gardens. A very good vantage point indeed.
I also loved the countryside around Taupo - quite mountainous and rather greener than I can ever remember it at home, and this was summer!
