There is a Maori village between Rotorua and Wai-o-tapu. Jokes aside, it was closed!? Probably being a Maori does not pay well during the tourist off-season and they had their bags packed and gone to the city comfort of Rotorua. Whatever the case, this did not instil a firm belief in the vibrant Maori culture. Considering that the region is advertised as the place in NZ with the best preserved Maori culture, one has to wonder what the rest of the country has to offer in this respect.
