The city has the mighty Waikato River, which means it must have bridges. There are several within the inner city, and it's nice to take a drive over them.
My favourite bridge is the Fairfield Bridge at the North end of town. Here it is at night, attractively lit up. Believe it or not there are motorcycle tyre marks over the top of the bridge arches, can you believe some daredevil has done that????

And when I walked further into the Arcade, lined with shops and boutiques on both sides, and the centrepiece the Greek Taverna at the end, it was even more delightful.

During our short stop in Hamilton, I was walking along a street (Barton St, just off the main street) when I happened upon this adorable arcade, Casabella.

These carved Maori motif Bollards I found by the river front really appealed to me.

Hamilton is the capital of the Waikato Region. The Waikato is New Zealand's biggest dairy area. Cows galore! The main dairy processing company is called Fonterra which is actually the world's 7th largest dairy company. The Fonterra milk trucks can be seen all over Waikato roads. Leave a Comment
