Hamilton Airport claims International status with it's connecting flights to and from Austalia and some Pacific Islands. This is very handy for travellers south of Auckland, as it's less distance and very accessible. Hamilton Airport is the fourth busiest in the country and an important domestic airport with light aircraft and scheduled flights coming in and out frequently.
Fog is a bugbear though with delays when the conditions are at their worst.
Terminal has been extensively revamped 2008.
DEPARTURE LEVY: $5.00 per person.

Hamilton has an airport located 14 kms south of the city centre. Budget International Airline, Freedom Air, has its base here. In addition domestic airlines: Air New Zealand and Origin Pacific fly from here to other NZ cities.
There are bars, cafes, shops and foreign exchange counters at the airport. There is long-term or short-term parking available. The long-term parking is much cheaper than Auckland! ($8 per day with a maximum charge of $48).
Directions: Drive south from Hamilton City on State Highway 1 towards Cambridge. Take the Tamahere turn off and head west. Follow Airport Road and the signs for approximately 4 kms.
