Favorite thing: You MUST visit the Green Hill Country of the Shire of MIDDLE EARTH!!! Go to the Information Office in Matamata and find out when the next bus is running. Most enthusiasts of Tolkiens work enjoy the visit. But if you are not really into LOTR you may find it a little uninteresting.

This is is a low wide valley, where the mighty Waikato River used to flow before it's course was diverted by a volcanic eruption.
