The Owharoa Falls are just on of the beautiful natural sites to be seen in the Karangahake Gorge. To get here it is only a 30 minute walk from the Visitor Centre at Waikino. Or you can see them from Waitawheta Road further down SH 2.

Nice pleasant café with crafts and souvenirs to buy as well. In the winter, with the fire going, this is a very nice stop on a long journey.

We drove to Karangahake from Auckland.
Drive on SH 1 until the turnoff for Coromandel after the Bombay Hills (SH 2)
Continue on SH 2 following the signs to Tauranga and Waihi. Karangahake Gorge is located about half way between Paeroa and Waihi about one and a half hours from Auckland.

Favorite thing: Again, if you have time, walk along the side rivers to find more beauty and if you are keen, and have a license of course, try your luck at trout fishing.
Fondest memory: The quiet of being alone, yet the loud noise of the river. It's truly beautiful.

Favorite thing: Some areas here have walking tracks established along a disused railway line. Nice wide tracks and easy walking.

Favorite thing: Even if you don't have a lot of time, try to just walk over the bridge and look at the river and glance back at the reverse view.
The native bush surrounding you here is very special.
