mmmm, I arrived in january 2006 after living for 20 years each in NZ, OZ, US and now, here I was back in NZ.
There is a great deal to do in Masterton if you are a kid, a parent, a rugby fan or a farmer. A tough town to understand.

A statue of a shearer at work 2 more images

    by salisbury3933 Written Oct 7, 2006

This is an interesting place near the park which details the history of shearing in NZ, and has some interesting displays.

Masterton is home to the Golden Shears shearing competition held in March each year, which is why the museum is based where it is.

$5 for adults, and $2 for kids. Family ticket is $10

    Aratoi Museum

    by salisbury3933 Written Oct 7, 2006

Next to the park is Aratoi, the regional museum of history and art, and there are one or two interesting exhibitions there to have a look at without being overwhelming.
It's worth a look to see what's on.

Masterton Restaurants

This is a typically standard family restaurant serving about what you would expect for a family restaurant in NZ in terms of what is on the menu. Steak, fish and chips etc.

Nothing to get much excited about to be honest, but the service I thought was pretty good, even if the food was average.

    How about a poppadom?

    by salisbury3933 Written Dec 30, 2006

I was quite impressed by this place, as they had all the small touches that a lot of Indian restaurants don't, and without being too expensive. I was also a bit surprised to find a restaurant of this quality in a place like Masterton, although that may be being a but unfair. Recommended.

    Cafe Cecille

    by salisbury3933 Written Oct 24, 2006

Right in the middle of Queen Elizabeth park is Cafe Cecille. The surroundings are very nice. It's a good place for coffee, and is reputedly also a very nice restaurant at night.

    Recommended.
