MotelThis is a very comfortable bar located upstairs and accessed via "Chow" an Asian Fusion eating/drinking/meeting spot on Tory Street Pretty relaxed in fact the code really revolves around your behaviour rather than the nature of your rig. As with most of Wellington the rules are rather oblique but try not to be dressing too down - no sneakers and caps

If you can't do that yet then you can always find your way down to Paradisio, Wed-Sat nightsSandwichesBar Restaurant with a Clubbing room as well, open every evening with special events on a regular basisThese locations are offered as a couple of options for later on...Paradisio has a restaurant at the front called Humming Bird which is a good plac e to have a nice meal but the interesting bit later on is the club bar off the side of the establishment. Music music music and a eclectic mix of patronage Paradisio is a House venue so street coolness is the rule. Sandwiches really depends on the night. But to be on the safe side don't wear it scruffy and don't wear trainers or a cap.
Although this is a female strip club for guys, I am made most welcome with friends that I take along, either male or female, it is not sleezy or a grubby place in terms of nudity but a friendly, down-to-earth place - and non-stop music from Monday to Saturday 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tidy dress and good attitude are essential
Molly Malone's is a night club in Taranaki Street, great atmosphere and full of people.It comes from an Irish beginning, so everything looks and sounds Irish. No ripped or torn jeans I would say; or rough clothes in general.
It's been a few years so I don't know what's in or out, but just wander along the main streets and judge for yourself. The beauty of Wellington is you can easily walk from end to end doing a regular 'pub crawl'. Back in the day we would often go to a 9pm movie to kill time before hitting a bar like 'The Hog's Head' for a few drinks before the dancing got started around 12. 'Fat Lady's Arms' is a fun place if you want to see drunk local boys trying to dance to music of sometimes questionable taste. There are lots of upscale bars along the road, too. I've heard that Tatou is great for after hours. Wellington also has the required Irish Pubs which are always food for live music and a pint. Depends where you go, but the more upscale places won't let you in with blue or black jeans, or white sports shoes. Ladies of course just flash a smile and a shoulder and you'll get in.
Wellington lives on Friday and Saturday nights - rest of the week it is a Business town...For Bohemian/Student stuff head up Cuba Mall - lots of little music venues and cafe/pubsMatterhorn Cafe does alternative sounds, alcohol and a cool crowdLaid back feel, some excellent music and a wake up call if you think you need a kick in the fashion victim pants Student place - grungy/jeans anti-WTO
Courtney Place and Shed 5: For a fun night out, drinking and fooling around Courtney Place is the place.Alternatively the Shed 5 and the Dockside Restaurants in Thorndon Quay will provide music, a very sociable crowd, and food if you feel like cheating. Lots of people start here and then drift over to Courtney Place as the evening progresses.The people are a real mix of Business, bureaucracy, students and out of towners. Friday night really defines Wellington as everyone just arrives to party and enjoy the end of the week. Lots of girl meets boy going on here. Don't wear jeans and sneakers - the bouncers just have to give you grief...
Courtenay Place in downtown Wellington is Party zone a good half mile of non stop Bars and night clubs, resturants and cafe's open from Dawn till Dawn there is every thing that you could possibly want. Cafe food is as varient as the ethic community is made up of from chinese to mongolian Favourite place's! For a spot of the Irish you cannot beat Molly Malones or Kitty O' Shea's , for real party fun , the best is The Big Easy and Shooters, but there is a huge number of places to go and see. Dress to dance, Gym shoes, Black jeans are generally not acceptable in all of the night spots , however the cafe's and resturants are generally cool about what you wear.
There are plenty of lively spots in Wellington at night, these are my best recommendations.Tatou, the Sports Cafe, Coyote, Molly Malones, the Grand, Dockside, Shed 5, the Matterhorn, the Ballroom, Motel and Q.The Matterhorn is excellent to go to if you want ot chill out. A converted tea room, it now houses the latest hip hop beats and 3 huge fire sticks stand erected outside to keep you warm.Dockside is where to go on a Friday after work, it is always packed, pumping, and has a huge dance floor. Plenty of sexy women here.The Grand and Coyote have great music, really loud, and you want groove here on Saturday nights.The Ballroom is a pool bar, with plenty of tables, you can challenge and build camraderie with your pal when you win and defend the table ensuring a good night ahead.Motel and Q are laid back, and you have to be very trendy to get in. Not really a night out's entertainment but a lovely time full-in - go to Palace Tavern (Victoria Street) and put some coins in the juke box it has a jolly great selection! (Yes there is a bar and a mini casino and MAYBE food? But I go there for the JUKE BOX!) Actually it can be pretty quiet otherwise. THE JUKE BOX! (also it's central, near the sky tower, not far from Queen Street etc.) From the outside the way it's lit up looks a LITTLE bit like a Vegas sign might. Not sure.
