This is a short tramride from the carpark to the beach, and is done on Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays by a volunteer group.
The trams used are ones that were in service in Wellington up to the 1960s. Wellington no longer has any tram services, but the trams live on in the current location.
$10 adult for unlimited rides during the day.
The Paekakariki railway station is a large old building that hints to the heyday of the railways in days gone by. The locals managed to save it from destruction, and these days there is a small museum inside. Much of it is devoted to the railway itself, but there's also some interesting local history contained as well.
It's not a bad place to stop for a few minutes if you are driving along state highway 1.
