  • Tip Rating:
  • Our roads are good, transport is good, we have trains, taxi's (cabs) and rental vehicles, all of which are a good price to deal with.
We in New Zealand do tend to drive on the opposite road to the Americans, but in general our roads are safe to drive around in.

  • Tip Rating:
  • When in Auckland we stayed in Devonport. It's a really nice area and you can get a ferry right into the centre of the city without having to face the traffic jam over the harbour bridge. Devonport is the peninsular in the middle-ground of this picture which was taken from the Sky Tower.

    Rongotai International...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Rongotai International Airport, on the Mirimar Peninsular , some 15 minutes from the city, makes Wellington City one of the most accessible in the world to International Air travel. Daily links with Australia and regular flights in and out to Auckland which links the world to our shores

By Air Sea or Land wellington...
  • Tip Rating:
  • By Air Sea or Land wellington is accessable by all forms of transport Its international Airport is but 15 minutes from the City centre, outside peak traffic hours, receiving international flights from Australia daily , Auckland International is but an hours flight away where all connections from the world arrive. By Sea several of the worlds best cruise liners arrive here in the summer months, By Rail Wellington is at the end of the Main trunk line, so a leisurely journey by quality train can be made to Wellington enjoying some of the worlds finest scenery on the way. By motoring . all roads lead south and north and easy access is gained to the city by a well posted network of roads, a popular method is to hire camper vans and travel the country that way.
Once in the city , travel is easy , a network of rail, bus and road access makes sight seeing easy , on the rail system a day rover pass can get you to all parts of the region with ease.

    Wellington International...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Wellington International Airport and is 8kms south east of the city centre.
The inter-island ferry service can get you over to the South Island in one hour.
Welington has a fine bus, and taxi service.
Driving on the left can be awkward for most other nationalities. but if you drive the road signs are excellent and street maps are easy to puirchase.

    Wellington has a reliable bus...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Wellington has a reliable bus service, has trains to everywhere in the North Island, is home to one of the most unigue airports in the world, and has taxis to burn.
The inter-island ferry service can whiz you over to the South Island in one hour, or criuse you in three.
Cars are fairly cheap to hire, and of course there's the cable car.

    Plane, train or automobile -...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Plane, train or automobile - depending on your preference. Roads are well sign-posted. Public transport (trains & buses) are regular and reliable and not overcrowded (ie everyone will get a seat). Ferries to/from South Island dock in Wellington.
By foot for central Wellington - its all very close. A good train system runs out to the northern suburbs and other cities and there's an excellent bus service. Taxis stands are posted around the city and are pretty honest although occasionally you might get a driver who doesn't know his way around very well.

  • Tip Rating:
  • We arrived into Wellington on the Cook Strait Rail Ferry. This Ferry took us from the town of Picton on the South Island to Wellington on the North Island.
Travel Wellington and the North Island by Car. We arrived into the ferry terminal in Wellington and rented a car.
Most International flights leave from Auckland. We pick the car up in Wellington and dropped it off in Auckland several days later.
