I had an excellent and good value meal at this restaurant. They don't have a liquor licence, so I won't ever go there for an evening meal, but the lunch I had there was fantastic, and good value at $13.50 for a mains.
A good option.

Upper Hutt has no shortage of Indian restaurants, however my meal at Yatra was possibly the best Indian meal I have had in NZ at least, and it was excellent value.
The location itself is a little bit unlikely really, not being in the centre of town, but being in a pretty residential area, it is a good option for locals, in my case the restaurant being 5 minutes walk from my house.
Excellent food, excellent service. I totally recommend this restaurant.

Good coffee and excellent food. The best cafe/bakery in Upper Hutt.
Hot cross buns are a specialty there, and their hot cross buns do well in national competitions.
Now that I am back in Upper Hutt, it's great to see that nothing has changed and that Buttercup Bakery is as good as ever.
UPDATE: April 2013. This cafe seems to have closed. A great shame.

This restaurant is about 1km from the city centre, and is very close to the Hawk's Inn Motel so a good option for people staying there.
It's a smallish family run restaurant with good, reasonably priced food and drinks. Not a bad option and they do takeaways as well.

This place is pretty good and the service the last time we went there was excellent. Food portions are a good size and good value for money. We had a great meal out.
The lunch special for $8 is excellent value, and I totally recommend it.
They do both Indian and Malaysian food, although the Indian menu is more extensive than the Malaysian one.

Upper Hutt has a number of restaurants, but this is the only European option of note, and I thoroughly recommend it.
The restaurant is owned by a German, and is authentic with good and well presented food with plenty in the way of volume. All the beer is imported German stuff of a high quality.
Greatly enjoyed.

This place does excellent Thai food, and I've been there numerous times. They have just got their liquor licence which is a bonus.
The price is good, and the taste is good. Plenty of variety on the menu as well. Recommended, although I think the owners have rested on their laurels a bit in recent times.

Little India is a welcome addition to the Upper Hutt dining scene, and offers good quality Indian fare at reasonable prices. Much recommended.
Lunch from $11 with rice and naan accompanying a main dish.
For dinner for 2 with drinks it cost us around $100 which is not too bad, although possibly a bit on the expensive side for Upper Hutt.

This particular cafe is actually built out of straw, hence the name, but it is an interesting, family friendly place to visit in the countryside.
There's a large play area for kids, and the coffee and food are pretty good as well. Recommended.

Not too bad allround, with good food in good quantities. The service itself was a bit all over the place, but I went home full, having had a good meal.
