The Welsh Dragon Bar is located on an island between Cambridge Tce and Kent St in a what was once a public toilet. It was a toilet stop for the trams and plays on both Welsh culture and former building purpose with their motto - "come in for a leek".
I met Craic and Kiwi here for the start of a pub crawl and it was very quiet indeed - lots on that week with the Wellington Film festival taking many punters in for a movie. The pub is covered with Welsh flags and memorabilia making it a fun place to go. We sat on comfy leather couches by a fireplace which was quite nice given that it was cold & wet that night. A place that is certainly worth a look.
Dress Code: Anything probably goes here but smart casual is advised.
We stopped in this historic old pub for a few drinks and thoroughly enjoyed their hospitality. Dome shaped and once known locally as the "Taj Mahal" this pub is situated on a traffic island and began it's life as toilets for the trams. Cleverly the Welsh theme has now led to the phrase "Come in for a leek" :-)
As you can see in my photos, there is plenty of memorabilia on the walls and I've never seen so many signed flags before!! Seems any Welsh celebs find their way here too, by the photos on the wall. Needless to say Welsh Rugby features a lot :-)
I was pleased also to find that the staff were, in fact, Welsh!!
