When travelling by Motor Home, the best way to pack your stuff is in a backpack. Why? Because you can easily put away the empty backpacks in the motor home. A suitcase is an enormous space absorber. When we travelled in New Zealand we saw all four seasons. Hot, cold, wet, sunny. So be prepared for all kinds of weather.Ofcourse your hiking shoes. You'll hike/tramp a lot in NZ. A first aid kit will do perfectly. You don't need any DTP, Hep A, Malaria, etc. Great isn't it. Lots and lots of film. Preferably ISO 100. With this kind of film you can make better enlargements.A tripod can be handy, because you will shoot a lot of landscapes. Tip: use a circular filter. There is almost no price difference compared to the Netherlands. So you'd better buy them in NZ. Why? X-ray is not good for the films. You'll pass lots of them on your way to NZ. A motor home! That's all you need.

The smaller the bag, the better (especially if you're going to trek). We found that a good fitting backpack is worth the investment (we have Eagle Creek backpacks ...I'm sure there are plenty of other good brands out there). DO bring plenty of zip-loc bags and large plastic bags to keep things dry. The weather in NZ can turn on a dime! My friend ruined his new digital camera while on a trek because he didn't wrap the camera bag in plastic (it started out a sunny day)...it got wet during an unexpected downpour. Be prepared for rain! A poncho is great ...it can go over your pack as well.Shoes ...no matter what any shoe saleman will tell you - there is no such thing as waterproof shoes in this country!! No danger from animals in this country. Do bring insect repellent ...the sandflies are relentless. Bring extra batteries for any photo equipment you have ...no electricity on the...

If you are from the Northern Hemisphere, remember the seassons are reversed. It can be cool in winter and hot in summer. Remember a high S.P.F. sunscreen if you are spending extended time outdoors as the ozone layer is shot in this part of the world. TV's and videos are on the PAL system (i.e. your USA or Japan videos won't play and your USA or Japan camcorder can't be hooked up to their televisions. Film is expensive and often includes the price of processing (best to bring it from home). If camping, be prepared for rain, particularly on the west coast of the South Island. The power is 220 volt A.C. 60 hz.

Don't bring too much; in a moterhome there is not much space to store it all. Definitely you should bring with you: rain gear.It can rain enormously in New Zealand (esp. on the South Island). But also bring sun blocker ; when you are in the mountains and the sun is shining, you better take care of yourself because else you will burn.

GOOD quality rain gear, especially if you are spending any time on the south island. I found it quite cold there even in the height of the summer. Bring lots of layers. Bring good hiking boots and shoes for the water. I was able to find everything I needed without a problem. The prices are a bit higher since its a small island though.

Backpacks are practical and easy to carry - but I say that on every trip, no matter where! However, whatever it is, it should be sturdy, rainproofed and lockable. You can sew attachments on to your rucksack to add padlocks, and bring plastic bags for storage of wet clothing. But hey, NZ is pretty civilised: if suitcases are your thing, they won't come to grief anywhere... Good walking shoes or boots are almost certain to come in handy. A raincoat or umbrella is useful all year around - it rains a lot in most parts of NZ. Bring sufficient clothing to dress in layers - the temperature varies dramatically from day to day most places (the 'five seasons in one day' climate). Be prepared for all kinds of weather, no matter what the season. Avoid hats which blow off easily - many parts of NZ are very windy. Think varied landscape, therefore varied weather. Sunglasses - the sun is pretty bright...

take a back pack..there is alot of stuff you can do that involves travelling by foot, if you want to see the scenery that is! Pack a bit of everything, it can be really warm in summer and freezing cold in winter!Take comfortable footwear and a good coat or jacket. You can buy excellent woollens in New Zealand, so maybe do some shopping while you are there too.

If you have your own rental car it's not that important, but if you travel by bus or so...then take a backpack.! I would for sure not forget a windjacket, especially down in Wellington, the windy city. Take the best roll of films, FUJI for the colours, because to take pictures in NZ is a matter on his own! Good shoes, walking/trekking boots. There are marvellous nature treks you can't miss them. SUN GLASSES and SUN CREAM. The sun is really different here and dangerous. Don't forget that! The ozon whole is just right up there and it's easy to get skin cancer down in NZ.
