One Red Dog: PIZZA!!

by IslandGirl10

Hubby and I went here the first evening we were in Wellington. Dishes were very interesting and ranged from one called One Reptile which was described as crocodile marinated in coconut and sweet chilli with mango and red capsicum to Have You Fed The Dog which was described as deer venison salami, portobello mushrooms, baby spinach and redcurrants. I opted for the Godfather which was pepperoni, tomatoes, red onions, portobello mushrooms and capsicum. The pizza was served hot out of the oven and had plenty of fixings on it. I have eaten pizza in many countries, but I found this one very enjoyable. Hubby opted for the pasta dish provençal which was streaky bacon, cherry tomato, basil in a sweet chilli and tomato sauce with penne. Both were nice sized portions. It reminded me of a place we eat here in our hometown called Italia's Little Corner. We go there to have pizza and beer. One Red Dog...

Leuven Belgian Beer Cafe: Belgium?

by IslandGirl10

Hubby and I went here for lunch. This turned out to be a very nice experience! Food was very tasty and they were pretty quick! Since my hubby was in Wellington on business, we were opting for fast *American* food....'nuff said, because I think everyone can figure out what American *fast food* is! I wish we would have known that some of these places were going to be on the quick side...my only regret. Often when you go into a restaurant in the US, you can figure that you are going to be a least an hour dining and when you are on a lunch break, that isn't always possible. I think we were waited on, served and paid within 45 minutes....so my husband could get back to work and stay within the bounds of his lunch break. Surroundings were very nice....again, a pub atmosphere, but certainly a little more low key at lunch time. The croque monsieur was de-lish....hubby had the salmon and loved...

Sawadee: Great Thai Food

by fishandchips

Sawadee is one place to make sure you visit when in Auckland if you like Thai food. The service here is great and the selection excellent. I came here on Halloween and the waitresses were all dressed up as Vampires & Witches.Once we had ordered the food came out really fast. It was really delicious and there was lots of it. Nothing seemed to be a problem for the staff. I had the beef and chicken with veges dish and it was great. Visit their website below for lots more info.

Oh Calcutta: A Taste of India in Auckland

by fishandchips

You'd think with a name like Oh Calcutta this place might not be that good however you would be completely wrong. The setting on Parnell Rise is really good with a few outside seats kept warm, if it's on the chilly side, by some heaters on the ceiling. The service was quick and the food really good. A good selection of beer was on the menu & my friends (one Irish & one from Hong Kong) had the Kingfisher Strong & Tiger beer respectively. The food came from all Indian directions so choice was not an issue - everything from the (fatty) buttered stuff to very hot Vindaloo. Oh Calcutta is just down the road from another good venue - The Bog which is an Irish bar and an excellent choice for a post Curry pint of Guiness. The Fish Tikka was surperb and the Tandori Chicken quite large. The Chicken Madras was very nice and the fragrant rice complemented the meat.

The Rocks Cafe: The only place to eat

by npsdguy

If you're unfortunate to find yourself in Invercargill then this is the place to eat. I don't know why such a great restaurant is in a place like this, but I was glad it was. It's on the main street through the town. The food is local and includes salmon, venison, beef, etc... and is cooked and presented in a way that you would think you're in a high class place in an international city. I had the salmon dish...it was cooked to perfection!

DineOut: Check out Restaurants on a Great Website

Mr. Whippy: The creamiest vanilla ice-cream

by Kakapo2

When you hear "Greensleeves" from the street it is high time to get outside and have the creamiest vanilla ice-cream you can imagine. The tune tells you that a Mr. Whippy van is arriving. Although originally from the UK, the soft serves and the red and white vans with the pink and yellow stripes have become a Kiwi icon. Many vans have their special spots, especially on Sundays, so if you are lusting for such an ice-cream the chance is high you will find one. In Christchurch such places are at the carpark of the New Brighton Pier, the Lyttelton Harbour Corner of Evans Pass, Taylor's Mistake and the Bottle Lake Reserve. There is also an fixed places in shopping malls in Auckland and Christchurch (Westfield Riccarton). On the North Island there are a lot more outlets than on the South Island where you only find them in Christchurch, Timaru, Nelson and Blenheim. The only negative point about...

Wendy's: Sugar free indulgence

by Kakapo2

Wherever you pass at a Wendy's ice-cream and milkshake store the staff are very attentive and friendly, and they often offer you a spoonful or two to taste before you decide which flavours you will chose. The various ice-creams do certainly not taste as spectacular as New Zealand Natural's varieties but they are a good alternative and not as fat and creamy and filling as NZ's calorie bomb favourites hokey-pokey, cookies and cream, maple walnut, Chocolate Brownie or fancy marshmellow mixtures which are sold in dairies and cafés. If you are hooked on such rich ice-creams, no worries, there are also calorie-rich varieties on offer. What makes Wendy's unique is the Tropical Sensation ice-cream which is made 97 per cent of frozen fruit juice, from a mixture of tropical fruit, nearly no fat and no added sugar. It only contains the natural fruit sugar. But, of course, this is not all. Ice-cakes,...
