Otara Market: Flea Market in the City

by keenee

Otara is in the heart of South Auckland and is 10-15 minutes drive from Auckland city. Every Saturday 7.00am to 12.00pm the shopping centre carpark comes to life with stalls of all types selling fresh fruit and vegetables, seafood, local crafts, 2nd hand clothing, music, furniture - you name it, you'll find it. What makes this market special is the strong Pacific Island influence. People-watching is the main attraction as the locals come out in force - it's crowded but worth it. I also recommend you try the cuisine, particulary the Cook Island donuts (there' s a great stall in the recreation centre), and make sure you take home one of the local t-shirts. Like any market, the earlier you go, the better the bargain. However, the prices at the market are generally the best in town.

any outdoor shop: nice and warm icebreakers

by margaretvn

look in any outdoor shop for Icebreaker clothing. Icebreaker clothing are made from merino wool and are the ideal clothing for any outdoor activity. They are so comfortable to wear and in NZ they cost at less half of what we pay here in Europe - plus there is much more to choose from. we paid around the 140 dollars for a jumper, but the range is large so prices are difficult to give. In any case it is good value for money for us European travellers!

Wellington - Lambton Quay

by keeweechic

Lambton Quay is one of the main shopping areas in Wellington. There are a lot of wonderful old buildings as well. This is the James Cook Arcade which was just under my hotel and came out into Lambton Quay.

Parnell Village - Auckland

by keeweechic

Parnell Village is a unique shopping experience and only 3 kms from Downtown Auckland. The old gracious buildings are filled with galleries, craft shops, fine jewellery and designer boutiques. Little brick paved paths circle in and out the back alleys where more little surprises await. Some really great restaurants deli style cafes and bars are also found here and the shopping environment of the day quickly transforms itself in the evening.

Uniquely New Zealand gifts.: Send Gifts Home To a Relative

by Norm-NZ

Some tourist gift shops will parcel your purchased gifts and send them to your overseas friends and relatives. So while you explore and enjoy your adventure in New Zealand your gifts are on their way to your loved ones. Buy items you can only get in New Zealand and no where else in the World. Uniquely New Zealand. And don't forget those pictureque New Zealand photo calendars. They will remind you of New Zealand for the 12 months after your trip.
