Luggage and bags: if you take a drive from Christchurch to the West Coast and use the Pass as Passage way, no worries, chuck everthing in the car and of you go. but if you decide to stay at the Village for hiking and mountaineering.....take note!!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Hiking boots, waterproof coat and trousers, fleece or wool Jacket, cloves, hat, thermal underwear!!
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: what ever you used too, take it. no pharmacy at the Village
Photo Equipment: all you can carry
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: feather-down sleeping bag, energy food, !!!!!!!!!cooking utensils, make sure you have double of what you plane for
Miscellaneous: it looks like as I wanted to spoil your fun, believe me.....is the last thing on my mind. I just want you save and sound!!! and if you tell the good folks at the Visitor Center, where you going and for how long.....we all would like to see you back in one piece

Photo Equipment: Though the aluminium tripod that I had was pretty light, the desire of not bringing this cumbersome equipment hovered in my mind. Remember that there are more sheeps than people in New Zealand. Hope you get my drift! :)
