Ebisu Japanese Restaurant provides a dimly-lit retreat from the Christchurch summer heat and hectic tourist stampede at the nearby Cathedral Square. Ideal venue to tune out for a while, becoming blissfully lost in the myriad of saki bottles lining a shelf behind the bar. They also have a good selection of Japanese beers.
An Izakaya serves Japanese-style pub grub. Ebisu has been serving Christchurch locals and tourists since 1999 and plates up fresh grilled and traditional Japanese dishes.
Favorite Dish:
Dishes are snack-sized and it is best to order a variety of dishes and share!
I ordered spicy pork dumplings – crispy, fresh and judiciously seasoned. Vanessa had Akaroa Salmon, which was tasty and filling. Both dishes were accompanied with rice and salad. We agreed the food was tasty without causing a stir in the Michelin Guide.
