Standing at corner of Lichfield St and Colombo St, you have a selection of stores at your fingertips practically in all directions: Bivouac/Outdoors, Kathmandu, The Great Outdoors, High Country, Snow Gum, Footrunner
Anything outdoor. Not that I'm much of an experienced outdoor person, but judging from these stores, the stores mostly sell really good brands, and they know give good advice. No extreme sales pitches, but down-to-earth recommendations.
Depends on what you're looking for, but quality outdoor gear does not come cheap. Leave a Comment Theme: Sporting GoodsAddress: Corner of Lichfield St and Colombo StDirections: Right off the bus exchange

 | | | | the 4 main Shopping Malls: One-stop shopping | Tip Rating: | | | | |
After living here for 4 weeks, so far I've located these 6 malls in Chch. There are probably more, but this will get you started: The Palms Northlands Eastgate Riccarton Bush Inn Hornby Dressmart The first 5 are conected by "the Orbiter" bus service that runs every 10 mins, but mind you, it takes about 90 minutes for a full circle, so other options are advised, see below. The Palms has a cinema attached to it, so does Hornby. Woolworth's. Pak'n Save. The Bush Inn is smaller than the others, but it covers the basics. Woolworth's. Countdown is just across. Hornby is being renovated and extended as of July 2004. New World. Cinema. Across from Hornby is Dressmart, an outlet store mall, where you may get a good deal. Riccarton is easy to reach by a number of bus services since A LOT of routes stop here to and from town. Located on Riccarton Rd., a busy shopping street itself, if you want/need to escape the mall. Pak'n Save. Northlands. Woolworth's. Pak'n Save. Countdown.
Outdoor gear, fleece and all-weather gear. Woollen sweaters and apparel, but make sure it's "Made in NZ", no point in taking anything else home, is there? Anything "All Blacks", the national rugby team. Usually you will find a sale on last season's items. They seem to make a new collection for every season, but unless you meet a true fan when you get home no one will be able to tell that you went there in 2004 but are wearing 2003 gear...I wouldn't, for sure. | | | | The Inkwell Gift Shop: The Bears are the Stars | Tip Rating: | | | | |
They do sell souvenirs in The Inkwell Gift Shop in New Regent Street, the most colourful street on the tramway route, things like NZ made greenstone and sterling silver jewellery, prints, ceramics, stone and wood carvings as well as other things like photo frames, celtic jewellery, wax seals, calligraphy pens and inks. But that is not why the shop is famous, and why it will immediately attract you. The bears are the stars. One huge one is sitting in front of the little two storey shop, at an old school desk. Others sometimes climb out through the window in the first floor, either over a ladder or on a knotted bed sheet. More of them are watching the scene through the windows, and another lot of them are posing in the window of the basement, and many, many others are sitting everywhere in the shop. You will surely not find another shop with a bigger choice of bears, and some are so wonderful that people travel to Christchurch and this shop only to purchase a bear. The owners Roz and Phil sell bears of all price ranges, including Steiff bears from Germany and the sensational NZ handmade Robin Rive Bears which are so very different, every bear being a great personality with its special hobby. Even if you cannot afford to buy such a masterpiece-bear - have a look at them, they are too wonderful to be ignored.
A bear, of course... But I am very playful and a bit childish... ;-) So there are a lot of other things to chose from, as already mentioned above.
From a dollar for a postcard to 300 NZ-dollars for a Robin Rive Bear.
