Tuatara

of course I like the Kiwi too, but from my early encounter with the Tuatara, this little Fossil had realy stolen my heart.some facts:the Tuatara is protected by Law, 'spiny back'.. in the Maori Language, the Tuatara is a reptil, but very different to Lizards. with a very primitive body structure, that supports the theory , that they are one of the oldest and most un-evolved species, having hardly changed in 220million years. they are nocturnal.....and I could have put this tip under nitelife.the skin is warm and a little floppy, very soft to the touch..they live in burrows, feeding on wetas.....:-) an other NZ nativ.....on Lizards, well you see the Tuatara is no Lizard, he snaps up worms and small seabirds.an adult can grow around 24cm, weight of 500grams..tiny sweetheart. and they only bread between 2-4 years.there is the North Island Tuatara and the Cook Straight Tuatara..and if you...

in the Vineyard...now that is a bit special, peace and quiet, great food and of course wine.if you like you are able to take your walks around the vineyard, someone will accompany you, many seedlings have been stolen and that is a no-no!

Wine, Food and Beaches

as in my pages on Nelson/Tasman, this Region is blessed with everything. Wine, Food and Beaches, not necceserely in this order. and the weather, the most pleasant climate you can find in the South Island...and don't tell me I am bias, I might bethe pic below shows Murderes Bay..a beautiful stretch of sandy beach...got the name from a spectacle Abel Tasman was involved in.he wanted to land her in the late 16th hundert, but the Maori People had other ideas, killed two of the Dutchman.....the Captain A.Tasman called the rest ack to the ship and sailed away, he never set foot on NZ soil.the Bay had its name...Murderes Bay, but I asure you, it is a beautiful spot.
