Mahau Sound View

by JohanIsWeg

As you enter Havelock on SH6 from Blenheim, turn right on Mahakipawa Rd, which becomes Queen Charlotte Drive. About three minutes (or 3.5km) up the road, turn left on a small road leading to a car park. Alight from your vehicle for some stunning Marlborough Sound views! On a clear day, you’ll have a perfect view of Mahau Sound towards Pelorus and Kenepuru Sounds, as well as the quaint town of Havelock. Peaceful vantage point…

Crossing the Wairau

This is a bit of an experience with the Bridge being very old & one way. There are traffic lights controlling the crossings so not big issues there but expect to wait as much as 10 minutes if you find yourself in a convoy with a few trucks

Marlborough Sounds Magic

by TomorrowsAngel

Reaching out into the Pacific Ocean like the fingers of a welcoming hand, the Marlborough Sounds area is made up of three main bodies of water - the Queen Charlotte, Kenepuru and Pelorus Sounds. This collection of drowned river valleys is a natural wonder unparalleled in New Zealand. Bordered by forested hills rising almost vertically from the water’s edge, the Marlborough Sounds is a true scenic highlight and is easily explored from either Picton or Havelock. Sail, paddle, kayak or motor through this picturesque maritime area. Fine restaurants and accommodation lodges are scattered throughout to make your stay a comfortable one.
