Wasps are numerous at the Malborough sounds region during summer and autumn. They feed off the nectar that drips from the Manuka trees. They are an introduced organism and displace native bees and birds that would have fed off the nectar themselves. They are also aggressive creatures, and you have to be careful around your tent and food, as they can easily get into both and sting your unexpectedly.
Bring some insect repellant!
