Living Light Candles: candles with New Zealand nature and culture ....

by vtveen

Of course you will find everywhere in the country tourist shops with candles, often even with candles made by Living Light Candles. But we found it appropriate to buy these candles at the factory, situated in Takaka, Golden Bay. We liked most the so called culture candles (with green stone or paua) and those with natural icons like dolphins and penguins. They were really original gifts for our friends and family at home. Arts Unique: unique NZ-gifts

by vtveen

Just a couple of km's from Kaiteriteri is the little village of Marahau. Here 'at the end' of the world you may find this rather unique art gallery.Inside you will find lots of nice and real NZ-gifts, crafts and arts. Outside is an unique garden full with huge wooden sculptures. For us the most impressive was the one of 'Abel Tasman', our fellow country man.Even it you don't buy anything it is a pleasure to browse around.

You are invited to stroll through the sculpture garden of the property which is a kind of open-air gallery, with huge carvings, from figures to wakas (Maori canoe) and oversized animals. There are even wooden figures staring through the windows of a rusting bus.You will find information panels about the artists and Maori legends next to the artworks, so a stroll through the sculpture garden becomes a special experience.I also liked...
