On the Otago Peninsula, Larnach Castle is open daily for both guided and independent tours and has a huge collection of New Zealand antiques, situated within 35 acres of gardens and grounds. The Barker Family, present-day owners, have lovingly restored this historic castle. Built in 1871 by a local Member of Parliament, Sir William Larnach, the castle has a scandalous history and is rumoured to have a resident ghost.
