The Palms Restaurant is set in a older style building, looking out at the Queens Garden. We booked in for my daughter's 18th birthday and ate the most delicious food. The presentation, taste, quantity and staff are to be recommended. This is a 5star plus restaurant in Dunedin. I'd recommend you try here and won't be disappointed.

Favorite Dish: I tried the NZ Lamb. It was succulent, melt in your mouth lamb. The accompanment pastry and sauce was delicious. The chocolate Brownie with peanut butter icecream was 'to die for'. Yummy.

The restaurant is full of character, including Queen Mary overlooking diners, as well as lovely old paintings of the scenic areas of the region, such as Fiordland and the Southern Alps. Found at the base of the historic Imperial Building, see the photo for visual on this.
This is a Fully Licensed BYO restaurant. This means you can Bring Your Own wine along, with a $4 charge for "corkage". Great if you want to bring a specialised wine along, although the wine list provided is very impressive.
I found the staff here delightful. Young ladies who were students at the local and reknowned Otago University, they were pleasant, bubbly and interested in their clients, asking where we were from and why we were in Dunedin etc. Their service and manner showed good training and perfect selection for the job.
The Palms doesn't have many tables, so be sure to book. l We have dined here on several occassions being placed both in the larger ground floor dining room and also upstairs in the smaller "office" rooms which have their own intimate appeal.
I had to eat Blue Cod. This fish is from the Fiordland deep waters are of New Zealand, and what better place to eat it than way down in Dunedin.
The meals are so well presented, with wonderful accompaniments.

Favorite Dish: The blue cheese gnocci entree was to die for!! I also really enjoyed the parcel of asparagus wrapped in bacon, very tasty!
You have to love restaurants such as The Palms who produce all their food onsite. Nothing is brought in already prepared.
There are meals to suit everyone, including a wonderful price range, with main meals ranging from $9 to $29. You don't have to consider this place as a high priced night out.
