Carisbrook

Carisbrook Stadium - home of the Highlanders Rugby Team and known as the House of Pain.

The Highlanders are Otago's rugby union team, so called because the area (they're based in Dunedin) was settled by the Scots and so has a strong Scottish influence. Rugby is very big in New Zealand, and everyone will tell you their team is the best. I would be reasonably indifferent, but I live with an Otago supporter, so that pretty much makes me one too.

Regardless of that, if you get to watch a rugby match during your stay, do go, the atmosphere is wonderful and quite contagious! The locals here are certainly passionate about their team.

I used to absolutely LOVE going to watch then Otago Highlanders and the All Blacks play at Carisbrook or "the house of pain"

All my friends and I would go and stand in the Terrace with all the students and yell, drink and really enjoy the game and atmosphere.

They won most times and all the fans would then walk into town and always have an awesome night.

The ground's capacity is around 35,000,

Equipment: Money as the cans of Speights are dear,
Warm cloths as it can be really chilly,
An empty bladder, as the toilets ar far away and usually full!
