Things to Do

The Maze

The Maze, Lake Wanaka

grets Says:  This was the original maze in New Zealand, since then they have become very popular, so much so that New Zealand are actually exporting them! The maze is incredibly frustrating! You have to visit the four corner towers before making your way to the centre. After finding two...

Illusion Rooms

Illusion Rooms, Lake Wanaka

grets Says:  The illusion rooms have to be seen to be believed. The first is a room full of holograms, certainly the best and most interesting holograms I have ever seen. Next is the Hall of Followinf Faces, where pictures of famous faces have that annoying habit that their faces seem to...

Tilted House

Tilted House, Lake Wanaka

grets Says:  The floor and walls of this house has been built at an angle of 15 degrees. When you stan dup straight, it gives the impression that you are in fact leaning. It is a really strange sensation! If you look at the photo, you can see Brent standing straight on the bottom rung of...

Stuart Lansborough's Puzzling World

Stuart Lansborough's Puzzling World, Lake Wanaka

grets Says:  As soon as you arrive, you notice all these eccentric buildings scattered about. “The Leaning Tower of Wanaka” is the first you notice. The leans a remarkable fifty-three degrees and balances on one corner! The large clock on the tower actually runs backwards. It was started...

Puzzling World

Puzzling World, Lake Wanaka

matlocksson Says:  Something fun and different. Good for kids but also fun for adults too. An entire museum of games and optical illusions. Worth checking out when taking a break from parasailing and jet boating in Wanaka.

Puzzling World

Puzzling World, Lake Wanaka

matlocksson Says:  This is a very interesting museum that revolves around illusions. One room focuses on holograms and another consists of a wall of famous faces (such as Albert Einstein) that appear to follow you as you move. There is also a room that makes you appear either very tall or very...

Puzzling World - The Maze

Puzzling World - The Maze, Lake Wanaka

Lozza_9 Says:  We went into the Maze which took us about 1 hour to do the difficult challenge. Loads of walking involved but great fun. We found it hard to find the exit. There are emergency exits if you need them. Here's a picture of the maze.

Lakeview Studios: Beautiful Apartments

Lakeview Studios: Beautiful Apartments, Lake Wanaka

jabakie Says:  This was a gorgeous studio apartment - set up on the hill overlooking the entire lake. It really was a spectaular view. The aprtament was just one room with a bathroom and a kitchenette - everything you could need for a few days. It was also great value for money - not at...

Wanaka Motor Inn: A pleasant place to sleep

Wanaka Motor Inn: A pleasant place to sleep, Lake Wanaka

grets Says:  Just a couple of miles from the centre of Wanaka, we spend the night at the Wanaka Motor Inn. The hotel has a friendly and cosy feel, all made from wood and natural stone, in some ways it reminds me of a skiing chalet. It is not a big place, only 32 rooms. The restaurant is...

I travelled here with the Magic bus and decided to stay one nite. Good decision, as this place is lovely !

Lake Wanaka is approximately 2 hours from a settlement called Haast. It is a very beautiful and scenic drive, and is highly recommended.

Favorite thing: I loved the Tilted House, and the strange feeling inside.

The room is on a slant - very confusing to the senses. You feel as if you're drunk, a chair slides upwards (?), you are leaning away from the wall and generally falling about. It is really good fun and worth a visit.
