Alot of businesses in Queenstown have moved to Swedish Rounding for the prices of most things. Essentially, what this means is that rather than stock 1-cent and 5-cent pieces which are small, and hard to keep track of, they will either round up or down based on the amount of an items final total. If your total ends in 0-5, you will be rounded down to .x0 and if it ends in 6-10, you will be round up to the next ten cent increment.

Frankly, I don't think anyone even notices this difference, since you can't buy anything for .10 anyway! Just be aware that it may not actually compute properly if you are pinching pennies!

A life sized statue of Queenstown Founder William Rees is situated on Steamers Wharf. Rees was a sheep farmer and the first European settler in Queenstown Bay.The statue was erected to honor him as the Founder of Queenstown and for being a humanitarian of fine character.

    Lambs, Otago

Ah New Zealanders are renowned for their sheep, but its a little hard to order lamb off the menu when you have been seeing lambs running around all day - actually Otago and the Queenstown area is now becoming a major wine district, apparently has very good conditions for it, New Zealand cuisine is actually advancing alot from the meat and two veg. of before, we had really good seafood throughout he trip

If you are aged between 18 and 25, I get the feeling that it is a local custom in this place to make sure you jump off the tallest, scariest thing around, where you can get a t-shirt afterwards and a souvenir photo! I'm glad I don't fall into the age group most affected by this strange habit.
In all seriousness though, it does seem to be a prevailing custom amongst tourists here to seek out as many thrilling activities as their wallets will allow and have a go. It's kind of infectious. I did consider doing the paragliding... it looked pretty cruisy and serene actually. Maybe if I go back (and have a little more spending money) I might try it.

    Saturday Market in Queenstown

It seems that Saturday is market day (weather permitting I guess) on Queenstown's waterfront. Not being a shopper, I wandered through rather quickly, but there was a range of local crafts on sale. I'm sure this might appeal to some and even if you don't travel to shop, it's worth a look... specially when the weather looks like this!
