Again, a difficult place to find, but well worth it!
This was perhaps the best bar on the whole South Island. That's all it is--a bar. No food, only drinks, and heaps of grown-ups out to have a good time. Both times I went, there were no teenagers and the music wasn't too loud so that you couldn't have a conversation. The employees were friendly, and even remembered my drink exactly how I liked it.
Dress Code: None.

For a bout of ppl watching and plenty of drinks - this is a nice place to chill out with comfy sofa's and lots of good music - and the latest music videos on the big screen .. worth a drink or 2 to check out the scene.

5 Below is a an ice bar (one of very few in the world). The cost of admission was $25NZD for a 1/2 hour and includes one drink. It seemed a bit pricey but it was well worth it (especially since the drinks are $12 inside anyway). The music was great and everyone inside was pretty excited to be there. Most of the patrons are tourists and generally very friendly.
Dress Code: It doesn't matter what you're wearing because you'll end up wearing the same thing as everyone else. You will be provided with a hooded coat and gloves with plastic mittens on top. It is kind of overkill...it's really not that cold in there -5 C but you won't be sweating either.
While we were getting dressed in our gear most of us chit-chatted about where we had been, where we were from, etc. When we told everyone we were Canadian...they had a nice chuckle, "I guess this is nothing for you".

When all the other bars are winding down, the World Bar is just heating up. Its got great music and a fun atmophere. It suits everyone - from a huge bar to saddle up to and people watch to a dance floor for those who've had a few too many (that includes me :)
Order a teapot and share it with some new friends..
Dress Code: Jeans and teashirt are required.

My favourite spot for a night out. Always crowded with lots of people, mainly backpackers. Various types of popular music are being played, from Rock to Dance and R&B.
The most striking thing about the place is the roof: from time to time it's being opened up to cool the place and the people down. And not just in summer time when the weather is sweet and dry...(I was there in the middle of the winter and even when it was raining they opened the roof a couple of times a night).
Tip: bring your ID, cause they can be quite strict.

The World is a popular backpacker bar in the centre of Queenstown. At the start of the night, around six, you can have dinner. Later at night the place changes into a nightclub or bar/dancing. They play popular music, ranging from dance to R&B, Rock and everything in between.
The best thing about the bar is the special way they serve the cocktails: in a tea pot! For NZ$15 you get a nice tea pot filled with a mix of liquor and fruity juices. There's a range of 15 different cocktails, so everybody should be able to find themselves a good one. The best way to find out what you like is to try them all!

This is a great little bar in the centre of town. Its really cosy with the fire going and happy hour keeps the prices down.
