Extreme Green Rafting offers rafting excursions on the Shotover Rivers whcih includes 10 rapids on the 18km trip and rafting in complete darkness through the 170m Oxenbridge Tunnel.
Transport is provided from Queenstown plus all equipment including 7mm wetsuits, wetsuit jackets, booties, spray jacket, helmet, paddles and life jacket. You will need to provide your own bathers and towel.
This may sound like a lot of gear to wear, which it is, but the water is icy cold so it is much needed. The overnight temperature in the canyon was -2C but the water didn't feel much warmer than that during the morning.
Even with socks and bootoes my feet has lost all feeling by the end of the trip. But a hot water shower and sauna is welcome relief at the end followed by a steaming cup of tea with biscuits.
This trip does not operate in winter because of the danger of falling ice from the canyon face.

Rafting Shotover River $175 ½ Day 8.15am or 1.15pm

We took a few inflatable kayaks 16km down the river on a freezing March morning, when there was snow on the mountains.
FREEZING!! but great fun. Kids loved it. Saw some spots where they filmed Lord o t Rings.
Craig, the guide, was good fun and full of mad stories!
