Some of my favourite restaurants: Places to make you happy

by Kakapo2

Every now and then people ask for great places to eat. Here is a list of good restaurants between Christchurch and Te Anau:Christchurch: many good restaurants along Riccarton Road (easy to find ;-), like Buddha Sticks, Lone Star, really a lot of nice places; Bodhi Tree (Clyde Road); The Old Vicarage in Halswell; Aikman's and Tutto Bene in Merivale; the Coffee House in Montreal Street; Cooking with Gas on Worcester Boulevard; etc. Drexel's is a breakfast restaurant for pure indulgence (outside Riccarton Mall). Lake Tekapo: Here I would only recommend Pepe's Pizza and Pasta Place. All others are very average. Omarama (past Mt. Cook National Park and Twizel on the way to Wanaka): The Wrinkly Rams (before the township begins, on the left side of the road)Wanaka: Several good restaurants, for example Bombay Palace (Indian), and several fine dining options. They also have a Botswana Butchery...

Fine dining.
Ballroom Cafe: Dunedin - Larnach Castle Cafe

by amandajayne81

This cafe was handy for people who are visiting the castle. Well rounded menu but nothing flash. It felt like we were eating back in olden day England with the setting which was pretty cool seeing as we were in NZ only castle. We had a plate of chips, scones and a soft drink each and it cost us NZD 26. The scones are massive would recommend those.Ballroom Cafe: 9.30am to 4.30pm daily

These scones were awesome
Park Cafe: A good stop at the end of a very long road

by sunshinejo

This cafe/restaurant/bar is situated in Marahau, right next to the start (or end) of the Abel Tasman Coastal Track. Louise and I came here for dinner and a couple of drinks after doing a day-hike through the Abel Tasman, and were really impressed. The night we visited, there was a band from Wellington playing live, who were very good, and as it was a nice evening we decided to sit outside in the beer garden and enjoy the last of the day's sun. When we got here we were ravenous from walking all day, so the food here really went down a treat! It was delicious and we didn't have to wait too long for it. They were charging a $3-4 cover charge because the band was playing, but this was waved as we were also eating, and although I can't remember exactly how much we spent, it was pretty reasonably priced, considering that there isn't really anywhere else to go in the area. I had roasted New...
