You have to be in a kayak to have this happen to you. You truck to the sound with your guide, leaving from TeAnau. You camp overnight in the most remote place you can imagine. I actually heard a morepork at night. That's a rare owl. You can drive to the Sound, but that's certainly not the way to see things like this.

Fishing in Doubtful Sound is very special. I swear you only needed to put your line over for a minute and there would be a fish on the line. Some of the fish are not edible, but others are. It is very satisfying to be guaranteed a catch and not to have to wait long. This place is serene, beautiful and extremely tranquil. A wonderful place to wind down from the hussle and bussle of fast life.

The delicacy to catch down here, is the Blue Cod. A deep water fish and these are deep water sounds, carved by glaciers. Two on one line is a treat not to miss and you don't have to wait long either.
