    Absolutely great place for Surfing.

Waves can be generated from the south, the west from the Tasman Sea, north from cyclone systems and east from depressions. This makes New Zealand a great place to be a surfer.

The South Island is cold and can get bitter in the winter. The quality empty surf more than makes up for the temperature. The main bodies of surfers on the South Island are based in and around Christchurch and Dunedin on the east coast.

    45 minute walk

The Chasm and Lovers' Leap: The frighteningly steep cliffs are a feature of the peninsula's southern coast. The walk to them across tussocked farmland offers wide views of the peninsula and down to Allans Beach. At Lovers' Leap the cliffs drop a sheer 200 metres to a point where the sea has tunnelled its way inland, creating a blowhole spanned by a natural rock bridge. At The Chasm the drop is nearly 130 metres. Both show how the peninsula was built up by successive ash and lava flows.
