I understand that there are guided tours on foot but they take some time (& risk) so the best way to see the Glacier is on one of the many helicopter tours. The views you get going up and coming down are amazing.

Some of these riders really made the trip they were taking look so easy, while others were obviously doing it hard.
And what a backdrop for them, motivating them and spurring them on the whole day through!

the competitors in the Bike Victoria ride were using this means of transport all around the Alps. I don't know how many kilometres they were travelling - a huge amount, over more than a week's travelling time.
It was amazing to see them all...but a bit of a hair raising experience when we had to pass all 500 or so of them going downhill on our way to Greymouth, without any advance warning car with lights to warn us that we were approaching more groups of them.
