Luggage and bags: It might be the most clichéd item to suggest but the West Coast is famous for its Sand Flies and Franz Joseph even more. They love the fresh blood of Tourists so either keep your skin covered or spray on some repellent.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Some may think it common-sensical, but it's always important to wear those covered toes shoes, especially when you are moving among the rocks. You do not want a stubbed toe or a swelling feet.
not trying to promote my show here, but yes, this Is a comfortable shoe.

Photo Equipment: When on the Glacier (and you should be on it, if you go to Franz Josef), remember to keep your batteries and camera close to your body. The cold air sucks the life out of batteries and you'll have lugged your camera through crevices and caves for nothing.
Also don't worry about bringing a full water bottle. You'll find a much fresher supply on the glacier

Luggage and bags: A day pack is useful. You can fill it with a drink bottle and some snacks if you want, especially when it's a long trip.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: 3-4 layers of warm upper body clothing, sunglasses and sun protection. For colder months, bring warm hat & gloves.
Avoid JEANS...they are not recommended on wet days as they become very cold and uncomfortable to wear!!
Photo Equipment: Bring your camera & lots of film or a digital camera & memory sticks.
