This is a very interesting place that our coach stopped at on the way to grey mouth for a coffee break. Full of interesting comments and notices we spent half an hour being completely amused by the comments! I also got to feed a stag here! :)
Favorite Dish: Coffee!
Typically when we research the destinations we are heading to on our trips, we look for a few unique places in each town. Greymouth was decidedly empty of information, including VirtualTourist and other sites. We figured we would give the whole town a pass and just go on to Hokitika. During the trip and research, we decided to detour off to Punakaiki though, which left our lunch meal in peril.
Also, after several unsuccessful passes through the streets of Greymouth, we were really not finding ANYTHING open. No chip shops, fast food, or anything. Finally, we rounded the corner and saw the Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant. It looked like it was closed when I went in and found not a soul eating there. The family who owned the place were sitting, and one man was in the kitchen. After finding out they were in fact open, we sat down and had a pretty decent meal!
Favorite Dish: We tried the cashew chicken, the pork fried rice, and the chicken noodles. All were fair to midland, but as my wife's grandmother used to say... Starve a man enough, and anything will taste good!
My wife and I visited Trawlers on the recommendation of a local taxi driver.
Great food, good service for a reasonable price.
Favorite Dish: The whitebait, oysters, scallops and crayfish were all awesome.
$131 for those dishes plus plenty of drinks was excellent value in my view.
We looked and looked for a place serving ANY kind of seafood (we're on the coast for God's sake) without finding anything. We finally found little, unpretentious Jones Cafe and enjoyed one of our best meals in NZ. Good local place with excellent lamb (duh!) and reasonably priced.
Favorite Dish: LAMB
We are such hard ccre Indian foodies that we actually walked a km and a half just to have lunch here! We were not disappointed!
Favorite Dish: Aloo paranthas and boondi raitha :)
