Fantail Cafe is a fairly simple place. There are no frills here, but the food is good and the restaurant is clean. There are several tables inside and on the patio (weather permitting). After you order and pay at the counter, the servers will deliver your food to your table.
Favorite Dish: There's a full menu of coffees and bakery goods that you'd expect to find at a cafe. But if you are looking for something a bit more substantial, there is a hot menu also. Items such as fish and chips, sandwiches and seafood baskets are what you get.
The sandwiches and dessert crumbles were good. Also, I did enjoy the venison stew.

The Pub is in the township of Haast, and is a great place to meet the locals of the Coast. Don't be put off by their hard exterior - they are really friendly people.
Smithys is a bit of a watering hole but also does some great meals.
During the Whitebait season - wrap your laughing gear around a whitebait pattie - a local speciality.
Favorite Dish: It may not be on the menu but you can still ask for 2 Fish, some chips and a fried egg. Beware the meal is huge!!! The Fish Sammie is also really good.
