Housed in a former Methodist church building dating from 1876, this museum is a real treasure trove of local history and culture. It has authentic gold-mining and refining equipment--including a gold stamper battery that is still operable.
The two curators, Peter Lawn and Graham Gollan, are always glad to show visitors around.

Victoria Forest Park, at 210,000 ha, is the country's 2nd largest Forest Park. It takes in the Brunner and Victoria Ranges and the Maruia, Inangahua and Upper Grey Valleys. Much of the forest is to be preserved as "protection forest" to prevent soil erosion and regulate river flows.

Favorite thing: It is very interesting to look inside the Reefton Visitor Centre. Here they can tell you all the information you need for the West Coast of the South Island and they can book different tours for you. From this stop you can catch buses going in northern, southern or eastern directions.
