Bungy Jump @ Bungyland

by wkcsmt

New Zealand is the home of modern bungy jumping. The 2 most popular bungy jump sites are in Taupo and Queenstown. Queenstown is now a mecca for bungy jumpers with 5 sites.Jump prices range from NZD$80 - NZD$200, which usually includes a T-shirt and of course the Certificate! Videos and action photos are an optional extra, costing NZD$30 - NZD$50.If you are not familiar with bungy jumping, read about it below....Bungy jumping is an adventure sport that captures the essence of Kiwi outdoor life - it’s different, really ‘off the wall’. In this case it’s off a bridge or similar platform structure from 35 to 134 metres high. The bungy operator’s crew secure a strong latex rubber cord either to a full body harness or around the jumper’s ankles. The jumper hobbles to the edge of the platform, takes a deep breath and swan dives into space, free falling until the cord is fully extended. If the...

Skytower Sky Jump

by keeweechic

Not one jump I am likely to do. This jump is different in the respect that it is a cable-controlled base jump from Auckland’s Sky Tower. You can choose to go feet first or just glide down head first. A special suit with a full body harness is provided and you are attached to a wire cable and a descender unit. The cable drum feeds out the wire behind you as you fall at a controlled speed. As you step off the observation deck on the Sky Tower, you see a miniature red bull’s eye painted on a raised platform 192 metres below. You then fall at about 60kph and as you approach the ground, decelerate until you finally touch down on the lower platform. All in all the jump/fall lasts about 20 seconds. The Sky Jump is supposed to be the highest public tower-based jump in the world. It is 4 times higher than the Taupo Bungy that I did.

Eden Park - Auckland

by keeweechic

Eden Park has been a sports ground since 1900 and in 1910 became the home of Auckland Cricket in 1910. Ruby followed in 1925. Over the past 100 years, Eden Park has played host to many memorable sporting events.Today the park is home of the Blues and the Auckland NPC team. The seating capacity is 43,000 which makes it the biggest sporting venue in New Zealand.

Sky Jump of the Auckland SkyTower

by easyoar

Jump off of New Zealands tallest building and drop 192 metres in about 10 seconds. You wear an all over body suit and are fitted to a wire. Most of the fall is very rapid, but just before you land, the fan descender kicks in, and you have a nice gentle landing on the ground.I got a massive buzz out of this that lasted about three hours. I haven't seen anywhere else in the world where you can do this sort of thing, and as I felt I wouldn't be going back to Auckland in a hurry, I thought I better do it whilst I had the chance! Empty bowels!

A Zorb down a hill

by easyoar

This is definitely at the more end of tame when it comes to extreme sports. Zorbing is basically climbing inside a big ball at the top of a hill ,and then getting rolled down the hill. You are strapped inside the ball, so you tend to go end over end. I have to admit that this appears to be a little over-rated, but this sport was invented in NZ, along with countless other lunatic type sports, so its as good a place as any to try it. There are two types of Zorb, a dry one, and a wet one. If you do the wet one, they tend to throw in some foaming agent that they then call the washing machine. I guess because you are on a spin cycle.

Scuba Diving

by roxy-surfer-gurl

If anybody who reads this is ever in New Zealand, you have to scuba dive. I am a surfer and I love to do it, so I wen to Australia and then traveled down to New Zealand. The hotel I was staying at was giving free scuba diving instructions and I had a free day so I decided to try it.I loved it! Buoancy compensators, compressors, fins, first aid equpiment (just to be safe), lights, snorkles, regulators, wetsuit, and an instructor.
