Queenstown - so touristy but beautiful - not a trap as such but a place to go when tourist is what you have in mind. It is really beautiful, but fairly commercial. i recommend going to wanaka as its almost the same but not so crowded with tourists. still beautiful and close to the snow for skiing.

Our expensive mistake but very pleasant experience. We forgot to ask the price. Cost us NZ$255.00 per nightTree hut chalet with own private balcony surrounded by native bush. Luxurious room with small sitting area, desk, TV / Video, mini bar, kingsize bed. It was heaven waking up in the morning to the sound of nature and the treetops like a canopy around us

by Tenzin

My brother was there in June 2001 with his wife. He rented a campervan only to have it broken into TWICE within 24 hrs on that very day. They lost their baggages, passport and his notebook PC.Realising that it will no longer be safe to drive the campervan he returned it in advance even though he had booked it for a week. Unfortunately the rental company refused to refund the balance and he had to incur extra cost for hotel accommodation as well. The least the rental company could have done was to let them know of the dangers of campervan driving. In future if you must drive try to limit it to private cars and park it in secure areas. It's really disappointing to know that NZ has become so tourist unfriendly. Thank goodness they bought travel insurance.

Do not let Australians and New Zealanders fool you. Vegemite is disgusting. Therefore, do not put it on your toast.

Shotover Jet

I know people here rave about this Tourist Attraction and it IS fun. But $100/per is a little steep, I thought, for a 20 minute boat ride. The people and the area are both very nice, however.

Shanty Town in a replica Gold Mining town located about 5 minutes drive out of Greymouth. Get an old time photo, just for funs sake.

Crazy Golf

Yes, I know it is touristy, I know it is crass - but it's such fun! Available many places, and a great way to while away an hour or so.
